Drug Honkey, "Hail Satan"
Drug Honkey's Hail Satan would be the perfect soundtrack to a hate-fueled, drug-induced bout of psychosis. The album is nearly an hours worth of over-driven guitars, heavily distorted bass, and incredibly huge vocals with synths flittering in the background.
Drug Honkey roughly sounds like a more doomed-out Godflesh, but these guys really can't hold a candle to Broadrick and company. There are, however, moments where you can't help but nod your head such as the opening groove of "Falling Out" or the hypnotic beat of "Heroin."
Hail Satan has its moments, but those moments are too few and far between. In addition, the production of this album is very rough around the edges which can be good or bad depending on how raw you like your music, but I really think a little clarity in the guitars would do the band some good.
In the future I'd really like to hear more from Drug Honkey to see if they make the necessary improvements to take themselves to the next level. The sound they are going for is an interesting sound that I think still has a lot to offer and should be explored by more bands as it seems like Justin Broadrick is one of the few people who are trying to take the sound to it's limits. As it stands, Hail Satan isn't quite there yet.
